Choosing a Massage Table
The points below are important when choosing a massage table:
Make sure the table has enough width to allow the arms of your client to rest on the table in prone position. This allows you to work the Lung, Large Intestine and Triple Heater Meridian with ease.
Make sure that your table is height adjustable for you need to experiment to find the right height so that you can work in all positions without having to change the height mid treatment. As a general rule, the table should be low enough for you to be able to get the sole of one of your feet up onto the surface of the table while your other leg is on the ground. This leg becomes important in techniques where you bear the weight of your clients hips or need to give assistance to your working arm.
Make sure that your table is sturdy enough to bear strong weight if you decide you want to get up onto the table for certain techniques (see The Table Shiatsu DVD).
Try to have a table without too much wooden support boarding at each end as in sitting position when working on the neck and head you want to be able to get your feet well under the table for support.
